John Brunious

John Brunious Jr. (October 12, 1940 – February 12, 2008) was a jazz trumpeter and the bandleader for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Brunious was the son of John Brunious Sr, a jazz musician in his own right and also his teacher. Brunious's initial inspirations were Dizzy Gillespie and Maynard Ferguson, but he had a continued interest in older styles of jazz. He has been a member of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band since the 1980s.[1]

The events of Hurricane Katrina caused him to lose many of his possessions. He also spent several days at a convention center before temporarily relocating to Arkansas to be treated for dehydration. He had since recovered.[2]

John Brunious died of a heart attack on February 12, 2008 in Orlando,Florida where he resided with his wife and stepdaughter. The family had moved to Orlando after losing their home and possessions in the flood in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
